It’s called the SQUID (Streamlined Quick Unfolding Investigation Drone), and it’s a quadcopter drone, but it’s quite different from the usual kind of drones you might find at your local electronics store. Developed by Caltech and JPL, SQUID launches from a tube, unfolds in mid-air and then fires up its motors to stabilise itself and fly as normal. It’s designed as a quick response drone, with minimal risk or energy required during takeoff to maximise the flight time....

We’ve seen – and featured – a lot of film cameras here on DIYP. Everything from 35mm, through medium format and even up to large format, not to mention more pinholes than we can count. But those cameras are usually of the stills variety. Cameras for photography. This one, though, from Yuta Ikeya is a little different. This one is for shooting movies, with 35mm film stock. You don’t normally think of 3D printing as being a good use for such complex camera systems, and while that’s true to a degree, modern technology allows a few workarounds to overcome potential issues....

He’s been covering sports photography for over three decades and he’s managed to get his hands on a new Canon 1DX Mark III. For this production with Or Samson we wanted to do something that we did not see before, but we also wanted to raise the technical bar so the photos will not be easy to reproduce. There’s been a lot of hype about Samsung’s ridiculously high-resolution ISOCELL sensors, particularly their most recent 200-megapixel ISOCELL HP1 and ISOCELL HP3 sensors. While there have been at least one confirmed devices coming that contain the ISOCELL HP1, we haven’t seen any images shot with them yet. Well, now that’s changed as Chen Jin, General Manager of Motorola China has posted a photo that he says was shot using the 200-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL HP1 found in the triple camera setup of the Moto Edge 30 Ultra....
