Canon has today announced the new EOS M50 Mark II mirrorless camera. Not much appears to have changed on the outside between the original Canon EOS M50 although it’s had a few significant enhancements on the inside, including improved Dual Pixel CMOS AF (but not for 4K) and Eye Detection AF. For vloggers, there’s a new vertical shooting mode, and it now has a clean HDMI output signal for when you want to feed into a capture device on your computer for live streaming – although it’s also compatible with Canon’s webcam software....

After secrets, rumors and leaked specs, Canon released their long-awaited mirrorless camera, EOS M50. According to a recent interview at Nikkei Asian Review, mirrorless cameras are finally about to become the company’s primary focus. President of Canon group member Canon Marketing Japan, Masahiro Sakata, has confirmed in the interview that the company will shift focus to mirrorless cameras. Reportedly, it’s “a change in strategy spurred by sharp growth in the market....

Canon has developed what was everybody thought to be impossible. And while it might not be the highest resolution camera sensor out there, Canon’s new 1-megapixel Single Photon Avalanche Detection (SPAD) sensor offers some huge benefits over more traditional CMOS or CCD sensors. The biggest being that it all but eliminates noise from your images. It differs from CMOS sensors in the way that it captures light. Whereas CMOS sensors use electrical signals to monitor the volume of light hitting each pixel in an analogue fashion, which introduces noise, before being converted to digital, SPAD sensors count each and every individual photon that hits it and puts out a true digital signal....

In the days of DSLRs, even when your camera was on a tripod, it was possible to get a little motion blur in your shots due to what we called “mirror slap”. In these mirrorless days, mirror slap isn’t really a thing anymore, but there is a chance that the vibrations from the shutter can cause the tiniest of motion blur. With lower resolution cameras, it’s not much of an issue, but with cameras getting higher and higher resolution with each new generation, it may become one....

Despite rumours of a 1DX-like mirrorless camera to add to Canon’s EOS R line up in 2021, it seems that Canon plans to offer the best of both worlds. According to a report on Canon Rumors, Canon is also going to release a 1DX Mark III DSLR, too, in 2020. While this is still just a rumour, Canon Rumors says that it comes “from a very solid source” that Canon will be releasing the 1DX Mark III....
