Yes, that’s right Pentax shooters. The wait is almost over. The Pentax FA* 50mm f/1.4 SDM AW lens you’ve all been coveting is finally being released. Pentax says that this is the first new lens which follows a new set of standards for their top-of-the-line Star series lenses. New standards that will, they claim, help to minimise aberrations and deliver the highest possible image quality. We took a brief look at the new lens along with the Pentax K-1 Mark II during The Photography Show a couple of months ago....

Way back in 2016 at Photokina we saw one of the craziest looking drones we’ve ever seen. It looked like a giant egg – hence the name PowerEgg. Created by PowerVision, it offered a very unique design, but it didn’t seem to really take off (pun unintended). It looked like a great performer, but it was beaten out on convenience by the then-tiny Mavic Pro. Now, PowerVision is back, with the PowerEggX....

Solarcan is back with a new product, the solarcan.co.uk/PUCK. It’s a solar camera that comes in a very tiny tin package to let you shoot the sun’s path through the sky over many weeks or months. It’s much smaller than their original 16oz version, which you can see in action here when Matthew Vandeputte used one to create a 10 million second exposure (just under 4 months). The new Solarcan Puck is also a pinhole camera and produces up to three total exposures....

You’ve seen some crazy wedding photos on DIYP before. This time, allow Abbi and Callen Hearne to blow your mind with the wedding photos they took. The couple photographed an adventurous wedding of Kim and Ryan in a desert near Moab, Utah. They shared the photos with us and they were taken on a space net 400 feet above a canyon! It’s one of the most colorful weddings I’ve ever seen, and even though the photos make me dizzy just from looking at them – I’m impressed by both the idea and the execution....

When we hear the term “ring light” in photography, one thing immediately springs to mind and it offers a very distinctive look. But there is also another type, which isn’t meant to wrap around your lens to create that “shadowless” (which isn’t really) beam of fill light coming directly from your camera, and that’s what Pye Jirsa shows us how to make in this video. It’s an interesting idea, basically wrapping a string of lights around a ring to create a unique look....
