Canon have updated their popular G9X compact camera with a couple of new additions. While it remains largely unchanged from its Mark I predecessor, it does feature a couple of pretty significant changes. The two biggest two being the massive speed increase from a 1fps Raw “burst” to 8.2fps as well as a new dual IS system utilising both the sensor and lens. Although compact cameras seem to be slowly dying off due to the advancements of cameras in smartphones, it isn’t stopping some companies....

In Guns, Germs, and Steel, author Jared Diamond describes two systems of invention transmission: 1) idea diffusion: imitation of an idea, and 2) blueprint copying: literal copying of an idea. Diamond uses the development of writing systems as the medium to discuss the concepts, noting that written writing systems probably only rose independently in Sumeria (3000 B.C.E.) and in ancient Mesoamerica (600 B.C.E.) with all other writing systems being influenced by the transmissions via trade and war....

It was only February when it was announced that Fujifilm would be acquiring American-owned Xerox in a $6.1 billion deal. It seems that now, though, that deal is not going to happen, thanks to a couple of “activist investors”, reports the BBC. Carl Icahn and Darwin Deason own, between them, 15% of Xerox and had opposed the deal. They say it undervalued the company and trouble has been brewing ever since/ Six Xerox board members and CEO, Jeff Jacobson agreed to step down in a settlement deal reached just a couple of weeks ago....
