Whenever I take photos I am satisfied with, I feel butterflies in my stomach. I recently though how photography gives me the same feeling as when I’m in love. And so, my always-in-love brain came up with a bit quirky comparison: how is photography similar to a relationship? I’ve had a few relationships over the years. I’m currently in the longest one with a human, but the one I’ve had with photography still beats it in duration....

After almost five years in Germany, I’ve amassed an impressive body of work. I love many of the photos I took here, and some of them are even selling rather well. Yet, I have very few images to show when people ask me to show photos of Germany. Because — surprise, surprise — most people are not into architectural abstracts. They are interested in regular snapshots of mundane stuff: streets, shops, recognizable buildings, and what not....

For those of us that have dealt with colour in any way digitally in the last decade, we are unfortunately all too familiar with the dreaded colour banding issues. If you’re not sure what colour banding is, then it’s the visual ‘stepping’ of colour that happens in digital files. It happens a lot and it can happen for any number of reasons. The most common scapegoats for colour banding are usually poor colour depth in our cameras, aggressive compression algorithms with online sites and any number of other technical failings....

If you want sharp black and white images with fine grain, then you are on the right page my friend! I’m a bit of a freak in terms of image quality and I love very detailed photos. That’s why I’ve been searching for a good combination of film and developer to obtain the best results. The technique I’m about to share is not for every situation and ideally, you will need either a decent amount of light or a tripod....
