The 2022 contest has just announced its shortlists, and just as always, there are so many stunning photos in the selection. The Harvest Moon rising behind Glastonbury Tor in the United Kingdom, the Milky Way mirrored by the highest national highway in the world in Tibet, a partial solar eclipse over Italy, the Southern Pinwheel Galaxy captured exactly 270 years after its discovery… You’ll see all of that and more among this year’s shortlists!...

It’s almost like you can’t go to an event these days without seeing a photo booth. Whether it’s a wedding, an office party, or just a weekend barbecue with family and friends, there seems to be a photo booth. There are a million different ways to make photo booths, from super expensive RED powered slow-mo booths to 3D photo booths and a vintage selfie booth, and in this weekend project from Make, we’re shown how to make our own touch screen photo booth for very little cost based around a Raspberry Pi....

Along with the development announcement for the 1DX Mark III, Canon has also announced availability for two new lenses. These aren’t EF mount, though. They’re RF mount for Canon’s EOS R mirrorless system. They’ve been mentioned before, but now they’re official. The Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM and Canon RF 85mm f/1.2L USM DS lenses. Canon did already release an 85mm f/1.2L lens for the EOS R system, although this new one adds what they’re calling “Defocus Smoothing” which they say helps to soften and smooth bokeh when working at wider apertures, improving the aesthetic of super shallow depth of field shots....

Just as announced, Facebook has published its controversial study about Instagram’s impact on the mental health of teenagers. The company revealed the slides that had previously leaked, but also the rest of the report that had been intended for Facebook’s eyes only. The Wall Street Journal leaked the slides earlier this month, which prompted even more people to stand up against “Instagram for kids.” The slides show some results of Facebook’s internal research about how Instagram affects mental health in teenagers....
