CineD just posted an interview they had with Panasonic’s Director of Imaging Business Unit, Yosuke Yamane. During the interview, they discuss a number of different topics including the influence of coronavirus both on the industry as a whole as well as how it’s affected Panasonic’s production, that 8K camera, and how well the G100 has performed since its release. The interview was primarily about the new Panasonic S5, but it also offers a glimmer of home for Micro Four Thirds shooters who’ve patiently been waiting for news of a GH5 successor....

I’ve heard a whisper or two recently about Sony working on a high-resolution 8K Micro Four Thirds sensor. But they were a little difficult to believe with the shape that the MFT system is in right now. That being said, Panasonic has been dropping hints and then confirming that the GH6 is on the way. So, maybe the whispers are to be believed. The folks at 43Rumors certainly seem to think they are, and they say they’ve now received confirmation from a source that there’s a new Sony Micro Four Thirds sensor on the way in 2021 that will shoot 8K video and offer a resolution of “30+MP”....

Pentax has today officially announced the development of the new HD PENTAX-D FA★85mm F1.4 ED SDM AW K mount lens for Pentax. At the moment, this is just a development announcement, but some of the lens specs have been released, along with a single photo. And this one doesn’t appear to simply be a rebranded Tokina. About the new lens, Pentax says… When it comes to the specs, Pentax is being surprisingly forthcoming, although they do stress that the designs and specifications are subject to change without notice....

Lake Baikal is the deepest and the oldest lake on Earth. Its icy surface is extremely photogenic, and people travel thousands of miles just so they could take photos at this magical place. But there’s another unique feature of this beautiful lake. It’s home to the Baikal seal or nerpa, one of the smallest pinnipeds in the world that could be found only in this lake.
