Well, there haven’t been all that many rumours about the apparently impending Sony A7 IV. We’ve figured it must be coming at some point relatively soon, given Sony’s typical release cycles and the fact that it was possibly a body Sony registered in April, but there hasn’t been a lot of information leaked about it at all. It seems, though, that an announcement had been planned for mid-September. Now, according to Sony Alpha Rumors, that announcement has been delayed until late October....

Sony’s much anticipated A6300 was finally released in March this year. An eagerly awaited update to 2014’s A6000. Now, a mere 8 months later, Sony have announced the new Alpha A6500 at a Sony event in NYC. It contains a 24MP APS-C Exmor CMOS sensor and like its predecessor shoots 4K video. Let’s hope it doesn’t overheat like the A6300, too. The big news with the A6500 is the new built in 5-axis in-camera stabilisation....

A consumer by the name of John Guerriero has filed a class-action suit against Sony Electronics Inc. in the Southern District of New York over claims that the shutter in the Sony A7 III is not fit for purpose, resulting in much-shortened life expectancies than expected. The reported life expectancy of the shutter in the Sony A7 III is 200,000 actuations, although he claims “numerous users report shutter failures … between 10,000 and 50,000 for most of the users who experienced this”....

At CES 2018 in Las Vegas, Sony has unveiled a new smartphone, and photographers might be interested in it. Xperia XA2 features a 23 MP Exmor RS sensor in its rear camera. The front side isn’t all that bad either. It features two cameras, one of 16MP and the other of 8MP, with a 120° field of view. According to Sony, the rear camera of the new Xperia XA2captures photos in great detail and their technology give you photos of great clarity....
