Using multiple differently coloured gels to light your subject and their environment has become a very popular subject over the last few years – and I’m totally not blaming Jake Hicks – but it’s not always possible to easily do in the studio. Perhaps you don’t have the colours of gel that you need. Or maybe there’s just too much colour spill to effectively get what you’re after. It is possible to simulate the look of using coloured gels in post, though, thanks to Photoshop....

The news of Ektachrome’s triumphant return to the world was a big deal when it was first announced. One of the many historic flavours of film that we thought had disappeared from our lives forever was coming back. It’s two years since Kodak Alaris told us Ektachrome would be coming back to 35mm. But now, it’s also coming to 120 roll film as well as large format sheet film. Although announced at CES back in January 2017, Ektachrome E100 didn’t really start shipping to the masses until September 2018....

The hypothetical Nikon Z8 has been rumoured for a long time. Way back in September 2019, we were already seeing leaks and reports about Nikon working on a 60-megapixel camera that was expected to be the Nikon Z8. Many of us expected to have been released by now, but it hasn’t. It seems that Nikon hasn’t been sitting on its laurels, though. Oh no. In fact, the latest word is that the Z8 is “finalized/production-ready”....

Panasonic has now officially announced the new GH5 Mark II, along with development of the GH6. And while we’ve already seen all of the GH5 Mark II specs and know exactly what it looks like, let’s go over the differences vs its predecessor anyway, and talk about what little they’ve told us of the GH6 so far that they say will be introduced later this year. The GH5 Mark II, Panasonic says, has been designed to address the latest issues of live video, with “built-in industry-leading wireless live streaming capability and high video performance”....
