Here’s the thing with micro quads, they’re small. Real small. The clue’s in the name, really. And when they’re carrying a load, every single gram of weight saved counts. This was the issue faced by filmmaker Robert McIntosh when he wanted to attach an already rather small GoPro Hero 4 to his micro quad. Why? To fly it through very tight spaces, of course. When I first came across Robert’s film Fresh Squeeze, I’ll admit I was a little confused....

On Via Paolo Lomazzo, in Milan, sits an unassuming shopfront. On the window are the words “Riparazioni Macchine Fotografiche” (“Camera Repair”) printed in simple bold letters. This is the workshop of 76 year old Gian Luigi Carminati, a man who has spent his entire working life repairing cameras. Armed with little more than a set of screwdrivers and a lot of patience, Carminati has repaired countless cameras in his time. A technician more than a photographer, he has made some interesting observations on photography over the years....

Building your own motorised camera gimbal or slider seem to be the in thing at the moment. In fact, I built one myself recently (that’s for another post, though). This one, though, from Michael Klements at The DIY Life is pretty cool and incorporates a slider with a motorised pan axis so that it can track a subject as it moves from one end of the rail to the other. It’s a total DIY project with a bunch of off-the-shelf parts and 3D printed components that Michael has designed himself....
