Sharpening and the various techniques available to apply it are hotly debated topics. Everybody has their own favourite way of doing it, and they tend to stick with it. I certainly have mine. I’ve got 2 or 3 go-to methods I bounce between depending on the image in question. There are also techniques I don’t use because I just don’t like what they do. I recently received my shiny new ASUS ZenFone 5, which just went on pre-order in the UK today. Vintage manual lenses can give you splendid results in both photography and filmmaking. There are some real gems among them, with exquisite sharpness or crazy bokeh. Filmmaker Brandon Li likes to use a couple of vintage lenses for his videos, and he shares four of his favorite ones and the reasons why he loves using them. Vintage lenses have some imperfections that Brandon sees as more cinematic. He says it’s not easy to put it in words, but it has something to do with a little bit of softness, lens flare, and aberration....

They almost look like aerial photographs of glacial meltwater flowing into Icelandic lakes. But these are no fluvial waters. These are extreme macro close-ups of the human eye, taken by portrait photographer Markus Hofstätter. The abstract nature and varied colors and textures are all part of the beauty of these images. Markus has been fascinated by eyes for many years but devised a method to capture even more close-up images. Markus tells DIYP that he started this project around 4 years ago and is finally ready to unveil it....

I can hardly imagine anyone who doesn’t like funny photos of cats. We often give them human traits and make them seem like they’re doing human things.
