There’s no doubt that the latest drones are safer than their older versions. Many of them now even include obstacle detection and collision avoidance technologies. However, safety issues regarding propellers remain unsolved. Thankfully, researchers from the University of Queensland has a high-tech but low-cost solution. They’ve developed a simple sensor system you can use on an existing quadcopter for just $15. The Safety Rotor uses a plastic hoop that spins slightly slower than the propeller....

It’s difficult to compete with timelapses like this. NASA gets a viewpoint from which the vast majority of the world will never be able to shoot. The artists who build and photograph miniature worlds never cease to amaze me with their skill, patience, and ideas. One of such artists is a German photographer and model builder Frank Kunert. He builds his miniature worlds from scratch, but the scenes he makes don’t belong to the world we see with our eyes. His Small Worlds are satirical, weird, surreal, often even dark. While all the elements look like they come straight from the world around us – each photo has a twist that will play with your mind and make you stop, stare and analyze it....
