It’s not that difficult to add computer control to a microscope. Now I realize this is not a huge need for the general photographer, however, some of us use photography in our profession, not weddings or models but in my case, I’m a geologist. We tend to take lots of pictures in the course of our work. We also need to look at samples utilizing a microscope. Usually, we examine rock samples by slicing them into very thin sections, grinding them down to a few microns, and then passing polarized light through them in our weird geological microscopes....

A camera that was used to shoot a Soviet space mission has been launched for an auction. Heritage Auctions is offering two Konvas Automat cameras, one of which was among the first cameras to ever go to space. While you would expect historic pieces of gear like this to start bidding at hundreds of thousands of dollars, the bid has started at $3,000 only for each. The cameras are auctioned as a part of Heritage Auctions’ Space Exploration Signature Auction....

The team at Loupedeck have launched a new product called the Loupedeck Live. It essentially looks like the top half of the Loupedeck CT, because it pretty much is, but comes in at a much lower price point. As with Loupedeck’s previous consoles, they see it as an extension of your keyboard, mouse and pen to offer easier access to your commonly used shortcuts and tools. While the name would suggest that it’s designed primarily for live streamers (and it is), it also offers much of the same functionality as the Loupedeck CT for photographers and content creators....

Irix has expanded its product base from just lenses once again. After having already branched out into filters, they’ve now announced the new Irix Matte Box IQ. It’s a small, lightweight matte box designed for filmmakers and video shooters to help control light spill on their lenses. It does have one slight drawback for many filmmakers, though, which might be a deal breaker. It’s only designed to work with Irix’s magnetic filters....
