A Florida photographer lost his life in a tragic and utterly bizarre accident. While shooting a beach sunrise with his GoPro, a sand dune presumably collapsed behind him. It trapped him under a pile of sand, which led to the tragedy. The accident happened on Sunday at Rock beach in Martin County, Florida. A person walking along the beach made a startling discovery as they saw the man’s feet sticking out from the sand....
One thing that seems to have become quite popular over the last year or two is colourising black and white photos. We’ve seen lots of people manually colouring old black and whites to help provide more context and tangibility to historical images and we’ve also seen AI neural engines that claim to do it automatically to produce realistic results. But it wasn’t until Photoshop released a beta of their AI-powered Colorize Neural Filter that many started to take the idea of automated colourising of black & white photos seriously....
Profoto has announced their new Profoto B10X and B10X Plus lights. Like the B10, they’re strobes, but it seems that Profoto is also targeting hybrid shooters that also create videos with this one. Profoto describes them as “multipurpose” and “built and designed to world-class standards” for both stills and video use. The continuous light output of both models has been increased from the 2500 lumens found in the B10 to 3250 lumens – a 30% increase....
This is the first of a number of new announcements from Sigma today. They’ve finally added a macro lens to their Global Vision Art series lenses. That lens is the Sigma 70mm f/2.8 DG Macro Art. With an aperture range of f/2.8 to f/22 and offering up to 1:1 magnification, this lens is likely going to be a big hit with macro fans. While this is a full frame lens, it may be of particular interest to APS-C shooters....
Sony is taking no prisoners. In their latest mid-term strategy paper, they pledge almost a 1 Trillion Yen (~$9 billion) investment into camera technology over the next three years. The investment is primarily in image sensors, with the goal of becoming the “top brand in the overall camera market” by 2021. With Canon’s recent announcement to take more than 50% of the interchangeable lens camera market in the next few years, things should get exciting....
