What is it with all these “world’s firsts” lately? It almost seems like companies are trying to outdo each other for an ego stroke, no matter how ludicrous their announcement may be. Well, now, it’s Laowa’s turn. Again. The first new lens is the 7.5mm f/2 for Micro Four Thirds cameras, the widest f/2 lens ever designed for MFT. The other is the 15mm f/2 FE Zero-D for full frame cameras....
Here is one thing you don’t want happening to you if you are covering the Hockey Stanley Cup Finals. One of the journalists covering the event dropped his lens onto the ice in the early stage of the game. I mean, forget the fact that this lens can easily cost a grand or two (anyone identifies the lens? hit us in the comments.); forget the fact that you are now one lens short for shooting the game; forget the fact that you placed a foreign object on the ice....
You don’t often see photographers using gels outdoors in natural light, but why? I think one of the core reasons you don’t see too many natural light gel shots, is that you need a lot of power and control from your lights to make gels visible in daylight. Whenever we’re outside during the daytime, sunlight has a tendency to creep in everywhere. Even when we’re standing in heavy shadow, there’s still a lot of light on us as the sun bounces around almost endlessly and sneaks into even the most shadowy areas....
Moment has been known for making smartphone lenses, and they turned out to be pretty neat. Now the company has launched Moment Air, which includes a whole bunch of accessories for Mavic 2 Pro and Zoom drones. They include a set of filters, a carrying case, and more. But the most interesting piece is probably the world’s first anamorphic lens for consumer drones. Moment has introduced the new products in a Kickstarter campaign and the $100,000 goal was reached in only four hours....
DPreview had the opportunity to sit down and chat with the director of Panasonic’s Imaging Business Division, Yosuke Yamane last month during CES. They’ve just posted their interview online and it offers some interesting insights into how well Panasonic has been doing in the world of full-frame mirrorless.
