Law in Florida forbids the police to use drones for surveillance of citizens. However, it seems that Miami Beach police have found a legal loophole. Instead of a drone, they use a miniature blimp with a camera attached to it. The blimp is a helium-filled device with a camera gimbal attached to its underside. It’s called a “tethered aerostat,” and according to Miami New Times, the police department tested it a while ago, and has recently decided to buy it....

Following my recent controversial dilemma on the future of my Fujifilm 56mm f/1.2, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to test out both the 50mm f/2 and the 90mm f/2 thanks to the lovely people over at Fujifilm. In the past few months, Apple has released a slew of ads boasting the iPhone X’s Portrait Lighting, but this latest commercial is definitely among the best we’ve seen. Titled ‘Studio in your pocket,’ it shows a young woman taking a selfie at a busy train station, and all sorts of studio lights and umbrellas start to appear out of nowhere. I have to say it’s certainly an eye-catching way to promote the iPhone X’s (so far) unmatched camera capabilities....

Nikon has discontinued its Coolpix B600 bridge camera due to parts supply uncertainty, released in March 2019. The camera wasn’t particularly high end, typically selling for around $350, housing a 16-megapixel 1/2.3″ CMOS sensor and only capable of shooting 1080p video, but at only just over two years old, it seems a bit soon for a camera that boasts a 60x optical zoom. As well as killing off the Coolpix B600, Nikon has also announced the “temporary suspension” of several other accessories, including the EH-5D AC adapter, the SU-800 infrared on-camera commander and its RC1C ringlight kit along with the SB-R200 speedlights....

After the success of Panasonic’s Micro Four Thirds BGH1 camera released last year, the company has followed it up with a new full-frame version, the Panasonic BS1H. Like its MFT counterpart, the BS1H is designed more as both a studio camera, to keep set up in a permanent shooting location, or as a cinema camera, that can be caged, rigged and carted around at will. It’s essentially a Panasonic S1H in the boxy form factor, boasting the same sensor and is based around the components of the S1H....
