There’s been a whole lot of new lens announcements lately. This latest pair are coming from Ricoh, with a 50mm f/1.4 full frame prime and an 11-18mm f/2.8 APS-C zoom for Pentax K-Mount. They form the beginning of a new generation of “Star series” lenses aimed specifically super-high resolution photography. Ricoh say that the final specs, and even the names of these lenses are subject to change before official announcement next year....

The day some of us have anxiously been waiting for is just around the corner. Starting tomorrow, the Perseid meteor shower is about to reach its peak. With up to 100 meteors every hour, it’s the most spectacular meteor shower of the year. But we don’t have too much time to observe it, so get prepared as soon as possible. The Perseids have already started lighting up the sky from 14 July....

Do you enjoy vintage photos from the mid-20th century? Photographer Michael Paul Smith has a vast collection of such photographs. They show the world as it was from the 1920s to 1960s – but they were all made using model cars and model buildings he makes himself. His photos are so masterfully done, you would never say those cars and houses aren’t real. Michael uses model cars and builds model houses to recreate the scenes from a fictional place Elgin Park....

You know the saying “they don’t make them like they used to”? Apparently, Meyer Optik wants to make them exactly like they used to. And by them, I mean lenses. After resurrecting the Trioplan f2.9/50 and the Trioplan f2.8/100 Meyer Optik are now bringing a new series of lenses to life, starting with the Primoplan 58 f1.9. All via Kickstarter. Meyer Optik’s two previous kickstarters raised about a million dollars and they were both for lenses from the Trioplan series....

Although V90 cards are the pinnacle of speed when it comes to UHS-II SD cards, V60 cards are still fast enough to cover the needs of most users – even shooting high bitrate 4K video. The one thing that those video shooters do need, though, are high-capacity cards. Well, ProGrade Digital has today announced its new high-capacity 512GB UHS-II V60 SD cards. The new card expands ProGrade’s Gold series of cards, adding to the existing 128GB and 256GB cards, and offers write speeds of up to 130MB/sec with sustained write speeds guaranteed to be a minimum of 60MB/sec....
