I’ve not quite decided yet whether the Chroma Chrono is genius or a gimmick. It’s an interesting idea, a programmable RGB camera flash capable of putting out, apparently, 16 million colours. But is it really all that useful or practical? Possibly not surprisingly, the Chroma Chrono is currently being funded through Kickstarter. I can see it either becoming wildly successful, or it’ll be another one of those items you buy, use once, and then forget about in a drawer....

New cameras get a lot of hassle over their autofocus systems. Either it doesn’t have Eye AF, or it isn’t dual pixel or it’s not phase detection. But what do all of these things mean? And I don’t just mean what are the technical differences, but how and why does this matter in the real world? And to whom does it matter? As the name suggests, a studio cart (a.k.a video cart or tethering cart) is a cart for your studio. Duh. As your studio grows and you need to move things around, a studio cart can really help your workflow. Obviously, it can help when you move things around. But there are more benefits. For example, you can mount a laptop, a camera, or a monitor on the cart, making it a portable shooting setup....

There are some very daft suggestions and tutorials on TikTok. As I discovered when I tried a few of the photography hacks, there are several that it goes without saying that you just shouldn’t try. This one might take the cake though. After watching a video of a ‘hack’ where a photographer appears to deliberately scratch his lens with a rock to create a ‘cool effect’, one viewer actually copied it and fully destroyed her camera lens....

DxOMark recently tested the cameras in the new Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra. Overall it did quite well, scoring 122, although they uncovered some fatal flaws that Samsung likely won’t be able to fix with mere software updates. They say it has the worst low-light autofocus performance of its competitors and the “100x Space Zoom” ability shows poor performance and detail.
