Well, this is interesting. Canon patents new lens designed all the time, but these days, it’s typically in relation to RF mount lenses targeted specifically towards photography. In this case, though, it looks like Canon’s filed patents for several lenses that appear to actually be cinema lenses. The big giveaway is in the opening description, referring specifically to “Super 35 format” rather than APS-C. The new lenses look pretty interesting, too, and may potentially upset the balance of common staples like the Sigma 18-35mm f/1....

One of the biggest grips about the original Canon EOS R and the EOS RP mirrorless cameras, along with only one card slot and the 4K crop, was the lack of in-body image stabilisation (IBIS). Canon’s word on the subject was basically that they didn’t feel their IBIS tech was at a point yet where it was worth implementing. They just weren’t happy with it. Canon promised it was going to be coming at some point in the future to EOS R cameras, though, and now that future seems to be close if Canon Watch is correct....

In a recent interview, Canon’s president Fujio Mitarai expressed not-so-optimistic predictions for the future of the camera business. He admitted that Canon’s sales have declined by around 10% in the past couple of years, and he believes that it will get even worse. According to Mitarai, the digital cameras market could shrink by as much as 50% within the next two years. The interview was published on the Japanese website Nikkei, where Canon’s president talked about the company’s plans, as well as his predictions and expectations for the future....

Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital in Australia has recently caused an outrage among birth photographers. This week, the hospital has formalized its decision that no professional photographers can be present during the process of birth. The decision was met with great disapproval and even led to an online petition to change the hospital’s policy. The hospital spokesperson told Yahoo News that professional photographers had never been allowed to be present while the baby is being delivered....
