Here is why (I think) you shouldn’t sell your files in bundles! Doing IPS (In Person Sales) does not mean that you cannot sell your files – but it does mean you shouldn’t be giving them away as a Shoot and burn photographer (S&B). And now some of the S&B’ernes will object, they are not giving them away, they are selling them as an all inclusive package! The S&B’s I know, are priced from 60-180£ (67€/70$-200€/220$) for a CD/USB/Download with 5-30 files included....

The tripod company 3 Legged Thing has started up a new company making bags and it’s called “Morally Toxic” – which seems a rather odd and unfortunate choice of name to me. According to company founder, Danny Lenihan, the name comes from mixing two ideas “Morally” from its apparent ethical production methods and “Toxic” because it wants to break from the “dull” and “corporate-looking” aesthetic of more traditional bags. Personally, I’m not sure I know anybody who’d walk around proudly bearing a tag that labels them as “morally toxic” – I think I’ve blocked most of the people who would fall under that particular umbrella....

One of the most difficult things in photography is to stay motivated and inspired. I know that I have hit “photographer’s block” many times in my career. Sometimes it is good to try out different photography assignments— to push yourself outside of your comfort zone, try a new approach, and to take action. Simply sitting on your bum and thinking about photography won’t improve your photography. You can only re-spark your passion for photography by making photos, or doing something hands-on....

When photographers use terms like ‘hard’ and ‘soft’ light, it’s actually incredibly vague. You would rarely describe your meal as simply a ‘meat’ dish, so when a photographer says they are using hard light in a portrait, it’s just as open to interpretation as your mystery-meat. Hard light can be anything from strong sunlight, to snoots, grids or even simple barn doors in a studio. But even with all that, none come close to the true crisp, brilliantly contrasty light of ‘Optical Snoots’....
