There’s been quite a bit of news coming out of the former Macphun offices. I say former Macphun offices, because they’re now known as Skylum. So, now they’re the Skylum offices. That’s the first bit of news. The next is their recent announcement of a Digital Asset Management system coming soon as part of Luminar 2018. Now, Luminar 2018 has been officially announced, and comes with some pretty neat updates. The DAM isn’t quite ready yet, but it will be a free upgrade for existing users when it’s released....

Well, this is a little strange. Sony has updated both the Sony A7R IV and the older Sony A7R III (which I didn’t realise they were still even making) with a new, higher-resolution LCD, bumping it up from 1.44 million dots to 2,359,296 dots. Both models also see a slight change in model name, adding an “A” to their previous ILCE designation. Both cameras now also now say they support USB 3....

It seems that these days, 3rd party lens manufacturers are doing everything they can to try to upstage everybody else. After Nikon’s recent introduction of the 105mm f/1.4E, Tamron have now filed a patent for a 115mm f/1.4 VC lens. If they make it, this would make it the longest f/1.4 autofocus* lens out there, taking Nikon’s recent crown. What’s even more interesting than the slightly longer focal length is the fact that this lens comes with VC (their version of VR/IS)....

Gizmodo Japan has spotted a design patent filed by DJI for a camera that looks remarkably similar to the Hasselblad X1D 50c. Of course, DJI essentially owns Hasselblad after becoming the majority stakeholder a couple of years ago, and DJI’s own Mavic 2 Pro contains a Hasselblad branded camera. But it seems now that DJI is going to be remaking Hasselblad cameras in their own image. The design patent was filed by DJI on the January 29th, 2019 and granted on July 26th....
