Well, even though Light’s L16 wasn’t the critically acclaimed success that the hype hoped it would be, it looks like Light’s technology is definitely being taken seriously by the smartphone world. After some heavy investment from Leica, a partnership with Sony, and the new Nokia 9 PureView containing Light tech, Light has now announced a new partnership with Chinese smartphone giant Xiaomi. As with much of the smartphone news over the last few days, the announcement comes out of MWC 2019, happening right now in Barcelona....

As the #MeToo movement is gaining momentum, we’re hearing more and more stories from the people who underwent sexual harassment. Some photographers were accused, or even banned from working because of the accusations of sexual misconduct. As an attempt to fight and prevent sexual harassment, three Canadian models have started a closed Facebook group. Here, both female and male models can submit the information about Canadian photographers. This way, they can warn each other and point out to the photographers who should be avoided....

Gudsen has today announced the new Moza Mini-S 3-axis motorised gimbal for smartphones. Gudsen says that their goal with the Mini-S is to increase flexibility, compactness and user-friendliness while packing in the features of the other Mini-series gimbal line up. The new Mini-S essentially has three forms. There’s the folded position, and it’s small and compact for travelling. Then the unfolded position, which is the type of thing we’re used to in a phone gimbal....

Website Beach Camera just leaked what appears to be the upcoming Fuji Instax SQ6 camera. It only takes Instax square film, so perhaps that partly explains why it resembles the iconic logo we’re all familiar with. I think it’s fair to say that Fujifilm’s popular Instax line has helped significantly in revitalizing film photography. Although kids might still hesitate to pick up a 35mm. film camera, they wouldn’t think twice about using an Instax....

Nikon announced their XQD cards back in August 2018, but they’re now finally in the USA, just in time to become obsoleted by the wave of CFexpress cards being released by everybody else. It only seems to be available in 64GB capacity, and not the 120GB previously reported, but they are showing as available right now to pre-order from B&H for $129.95. The release comes just at a time when SanDisk, Delkin, ProGrade, Wise and Lexar have just released their CFexpress cards for order (in the case of SanDisk) or pre-order (everybody else), offering 3-4x the speeds of Nikon’s (or anybody else’s) XQD cards....
