I started in photography as a stepping stone into digital art. As with most photographers, I started taking pictures of everyone and everything. It was not fun hiking with me; I was the guy stopping every five minutes to take pictures of trees and rocks. During that time I was mesmerized by 3d artworks and by the incredible landscapes and props other artists were creating. Even though I was eager to start creating 3d artworks, the technical difficulty and the steep learning curve kept me from it....

Canon recently released its Q3/2019 financial report and the results are once again pretty bad in the imaging division. The trend of declining sales and profits continues, with a 13.9% decrease in sales and a 56.8% decrease in profits compared to the Q3/2018. At the beginning of this year, Canon predicted a grim future for the camera business. Canon’s president Fujio Mitarai said back then that the digital cameras market could shrink by 50% within the next two years....

Canon has published a patent for two new zoom lens in the 28-70mm f/2.8 and 28-60mm f/2.8 focal length ranges. What makes them particularly interesting, though, is how tiny they are, for zooms with such wide aperture zooms, with both coming in at a little over 105mm long at the shorter end of their focal length limit of ~28mm. Even at their maximum zooms of 60mm and 67.9mm, they still only hit 132....

I don’t know why, but I always get a shock when I see how many fake products there are out there. Not clearly marked 3rd party alternatives, but products actually designed and branded to look like the originals. We see it with memory cards regularly and even camera strap accessories, but fake batteries are also out there. Canon has been doing something about the latter, though. Canon has announced that they’ve won a lawsuit against two eBay sellers for selling counterfeit “Canon” batteries....

In June 2015, Brazilian photographer Pedro Oliveira started a new personal project called Careful: Soul Inside. It’s a look into the lives of homeless people throughout the world using portraits. He engages with them, listens to their stories and shares their pictures. His goal is to bring awareness to the fine line that separates them from the rest of society and to make people see that they’re also people, too....
