I shoot about 50% film and 50% digital these days. For digital, I shoot with the Fujifilm X series cameras and lenses. Fujifilm cameras appealed to me several years ago because of the retro styling and film camera like controls for shutter speed, ISO and aperture. I also loved the ability to use Fujifilm film emulsion filters on the in-camera jpgs such as Velvia, Acros, Provia, Astia, Classic Chrome and PRO Neg to name a few....

The coronavirus outbreak has affected our industry in a number of ways. One of them is pretty weird and probably frustrating for many new couples and their photographers. As you might know, the number of people who can be in closed spaces has been limited in the majority of countries. In Australia, it’s currently five, which also severely limits the number of guests at weddings. In other words – if you want the photographer to attend, he or she will have to act as one of the witnesses....

In October last year, the sad news was announced that Imaging Resource would be shutting down after more than 20 years of being one of the most respected resources for photographers on the web. Now, five months later, it appears that IR has a saviour, in the form of Madavor Media, the company behind such publications as Outdoor Photographer and Digital Photo Pro magazines. A post on the Imaging Resource website by IR founder, Dave Etchells, says that they’ve been in talks with Madavor Media since the initial announcement in October, but it’s taken until now to wrap things up and make it official....

The notion of carefully curating and managing posts on a platform that espouses the spontaneity of a Polaroid-like image in a digital format is somewhat conflicted. However, while Instagram might be regarded as the web’s largest repository of cats drinking coffee on fixed wheel bicycles, it’s also an integral component of many companies’ and professional photographers’ social media marketing strategies. As a consequence, a great many photos shared there aren’t smartphone-snapped-shots conveying a sense of the here-and-now; they are carefully selected images that conform to a prescribed narrative or aesthetic....
