What happens when you get a photographer who retouches his own images vs a retoucher who does it for high end clients as a living? Let’s find out the results! So I contacted the awesome David Neilands about joining me on this nuts idea about us “battling” if you will over an image. In all honesty this was DEFINITELY not a battle, I was just genuinely excited and interested at the idea of what happens when you take someone like me who treats retouching and post processing as a part of the final image look and aesthetic, vs a retoucher who fixes things based on a more “there is an issue here” / logical approach....

The words “RED” and “patent” are pretty familiar bedfellows. They’ve used their raw video patents to strongarm every other camera manufacturer from being able to implement raw video in their camera without RED’s approval (and a hefty fee), even if those companies have developed their own raw video technologies. Now, they’ve filed – and been granted – a new patent over compressed raw video. The new US patent number 11,503,294, joints three other RED patents relating to compressed raw video (8,872,933, 9,479,749 and 9,787,878), but this new one seems to encompass devices other than just cinema cameras....

If you shoot film and want to try something new, there’s an interesting new camera coming up. RETO3D is an affordable 3D camera aimed at film photographers of the modern day. It relies on the already familiar concept of 3D film cameras, but it sells at a way more affordable price. The RETO3D is currently being funded through a Kickstarter campaign, and at the time of writing this, it’s about $7,000 USD away from its $25,500 USD goal....

We’ve seen a lot of action cameras that packs a lot of gimmicky features, but Sionyx’s Aurora is the first ever to incorporate color night vision. Since it launched its Kickstarter campaign, it’s received a lot of interest and reached its $50,000 goal in just four hours. The design alone makes the Aurora different from the rest of the action cameras in the market today. Instead of adopting a GoPro-style body, it looks more like a really tiny camcorder....
