Rode has announced their new Rode Lavalier II microphone. It’s the latest iteration of Rode’s premium lavalier microphone first introduced around 2010. It comes with a new low-profile design that not only differentiates it from its predecessor but pretty much every other lav on the market. The new design should make it much more discreet and easier to conceal underneath clothing or other items. The new microphone boasts “broadcast-grade sound quality” with a flat frequency response and omnidirectional polar pattern....

Given Canon’s previous commitment to pursuing DSLRs alongside their new full-frame EOS R mirrorless line, this proves to be quite interesting if true. Canon Rumors says they’ve been told that Canon has scrapped plans for at least one new DSLR in favour of a mirrorless alternative. Whether or not it’s true is another matter, but it would be a smart move. Certain Canon cameras like the 5DS and 5DSR, for example, are getting a little long in the tooth now, and about ready for replacement....

The December security update for Galaxy devices patches as many as 80 vulnerabilities, Samsung revealed last week. The vast majority of those patches are part of the latest ASB (Android Security Bulletin). These vulnerabilities exist on Android OS and other partner components. They affect all devices using those components. At least five of this month’s ASB patches concerned critical vulnerabilities, some of which could lead to remote code execution with any additional privileges....
