This summer, Canon turned to crowdfunding in an attempt to launch Canon IVY REC, a tiny clippable action camera. After a successful IndieGoGo campaign, Canon is now making IVY REC publicly available. This little action cam is made to go anywhere with you and shoot in harsh conditions, and it could hopefully succeed where Nikon KeyMission failed.
Canon IVY REC is small and lightweight, made to be clipped onto your belt or backpack and carried everywhere. It features a 13MP sensor, shooting Full HD videos to a microSD card. It’s dust- and dirt-proof, and waterproof to a depth of 2m (6 feet) for 30 minutes. It’s also designed to withstand a fall from up to 2m.
The camera is designed to work with your smartphone. You can connect it to your phone or tablet using the Canon Mini Cam App and post your clips online. Here are the key specs, and you can see the full list of specs here:

On the minus side, the Canon IVY REC doesn’t feature a screen. But that can also be a plus since there is no screen to crack when the camera hits the ground. Canon notes that the clip doubles as a viewfinder. But personally, I’d prefer a screen on an action camera. When it comes to colors, you can pick from these four: Dragon fruit (Pink), Avocado (Green), Stone (Grey) and Riptide (Blue). The Canon IVY REC will be available next month at the price of $129.99.
