If you don’t want to be that person who always has a phone in their hands capturing everyday moments, Canon’s got you covered. The company has announced PowerShot PX, a smart little camera that follows you and takes photos of your day, with you in the frame.
The PowerShot PX looks like a cute little surveillance camera. And in a way, that’s what it is, considering that it constantly watches you. But it’s also your little personal photographer capturing candid shots of you, and your family and friends. It has an 11.7MP sensor and a 340˚ pan and a 110˚ tilt 19-57mm equivalent zoom lens.
The camera charges via USB-C charging port and has built-in Wi-Fi so you can connect it to your phone. It takes photos and automatically adds them to an app, so you can choose the ones you like best. If you want more control, you can give your PX a voice command when you want it to take a photo. In addition, you can also use this camera as a webcam: it’s compatible with Canon’s webcam software. Canon has introduced the PowerShot PX as a concept camera at Birmingham’s The Photography Show back in 2018. And of course, there’s also Google Clips which had been announced a year before and went up for sale in February 2018. It got discontinued only a year and a half later, though, so I wonder if Canon will be of better luck. The Canon PowerShot PX retails for £449.99 in the UK and €499.99 in Europe. That’s around $580 USD, but the retail price in the US is still to be confirmed. Still, this is not exactly pocket money for a modest camera like this, but if you’d like to ditch your phone and let AI take snaps for you, maybe you’ll find it’s worth it. What do you think?
