When the pandemic began, we moved our lives online more than ever before. Even art exhibitions have taken place online for the past two years, and perhaps you’re considering throwing one of your own. Well, Galeryst makes it quite simple. It’s a Lightroom that adds your images to a 3D virtual gallery, and it’s completely free to use.
To use Galeryst, you need to sign in with your Adobe ID just like you would when accessing any Adobe product. After that, you can create your first gallery. The website will guide you through selecting Lightroom albums and adding photos to your virtual exhibition, but you can also check out the tutorials before you get started.
Other than selecting your photos, you can even choose the look of the gallery itself: choose flooring, walls, ceilings, and panel arrangement options to match the mood of your exhibition. Finally, you can choose a plan that works best for you. There is a free option and it’s still quite good. However, there are also paid plans that let you do more: link to other websites, sell your work, or just make more or larger galleries. The man behind Galeryst is Michael Scherotter. Along with a small dedicated team of volunteers, he built this virtual place that “enables any artist to create a beautiful gallery to share their artwork with the world.” As you can probably imagine, he was inspired to do this when the galleries all over the world shut down due to the pandemic. You may be a little skeptical about this. I’ve seen comments of people who don’t get the point of an online gallery like this. But I encourage you to try for several reasons. First, if you’ve never had a solo exhibition, something like this could help you imagine your photos displayed in a gallery. Perhaps it will also motivate you to organize your first live exhibition, too. Then, this helps you reach an audience from all over the world. For example, I had a solo exhibition a few years ago, but only people from my hometown came to see it. When I joined Christopher Larson in an online exhibition, our images were available for anyone to see, no matter where they live. Next, if you plan an exhibition, creating an online gallery first could help you visualize how you want your works to be displayed. It can be some kind of a map, planner, or mood board for your next exhibition. And of course, if your country is still in lockdown, this may even be the only way to display your work in a gallery at the moment. And last but not least – it’s fun.
