It was only a few days ago when we reported that Instagram might be evolving into Twitter with its new Notes feature. Well, the launch happened much sooner than expected – and Notes are already officially out. I spotted the new feature when I opened Instagram today, and then saw the announcement on the platform’s Twitter account. Am I the only one feeling the irony here? Anyhow, I wanted to share with you what it looks like and what you can expect.
I mentioned before that I run several Instagram accounts, and I spotted Notes only on this one. I wanted to send a message and there it was, right above my DMs. Instagram prompted me to “leave a note,” giving me 60 characters to write what’s on my mind. Similar to Stories, I got to choose whether I wanted to share my ramblings with all followers or just close friends. I chose the latter and posted my first “test note.” It was there when I opened my DMs later, but nowhere on my profile. I also couldn’t see it from my other accounts, but that is probably because Notes still isn’t available for any of them. I tried with another note, and it deleted the previous one, showing only the latest one I wrote. Instagram warned be about that, as well as that people would be able to see my note for 24 hours only. they can also reply to my notes with a message, and I honestly hope this will be possible to turn off. I hate it when people reply to my Stories with emojis, clogging my DMs and making it difficult to track important messages. To sum up: Notes only give you 60 characters and you can see people’s Notes only when you open your inbox. Whenever you post a new note, the old one gets deleted, and they only last 24 hours. It’s like Twitter… But if you ordered it from Wish. There’s no word for now about when Notes will be released to everyone. But as it usually happens with new features, Instagram rolls them out gradually, so I expect we’ll all be able to see them over the next few weeks.
