Lens manufacturer Irix has today announced the newest additions to its square filter lineup. While still a fairly small player in the world of filters when we look at the likes of Lee, NiSi and Cokin, Irix introduced their square filters way back in 2017 with the Irix Edge 100 system and they now offer a fairly decent range of NDs for both filmmakers and photographers. The newest filters arrive in a Super Resistance (SR) variety, with toughened coatings that Irix says offers “outstanding protection” in harsh conditions while still providing accurate colour as well as good sharpness and contrast. Of course, they also feature their standard NANO coating to repel dirt and water.
The new filters come in all of the flavours we’re used to including regular neutral density, both hard and soft graduated neutral density and reverse graduated neutral density. The standard NDs are 100 x 100mm and the graduated filters are 100 x 150mm, allowing you to shift them up and down to suit your horizon level and get that ND exactly where you need it in your frame. Irix says that the new SR filters expand their Edge line and can be used with the company’s IFH-100 and IFH-100 Pro holders, as well as with 100mm holders from any other filter company. The new SR versions add increased resistance to mechanical damage such as impact as well as improving the scratch resistance properties of their filters. The new SR filters also feature the NANO coating for water & dirt repellence, so that should last you for quite a while.
