Luminar Neo has added a new feature aimed at making your life easier and your editing time shorter. The previously announced Portrait Background Removal is now here, and as the name suggests, it removes the background in your portrait photos. Like most of Luminar’s AI features, it does all the hard work in a single click. Skylum promises careful and precise hair-by-hair selections, giving you a transparent background in no time.
“Manual masking and separating people from the background is a lot of boring work to me. My creative spark can be extinguished by this routine” says Ivan Kutanin, CEO of Skylum. I feel you, Ivan! “With Luminar’s new Portrait Background Removal tool, nothing will slow down the creativity”
With Portrait Background Removal, you can use one slider to select a human and remove the background behind it. It can be useful for any compositing work, and some of us would find it useful for a CV or official documents photo. Contrary to what you might expect, the Portrait Background Removal tool isn’t nested under Portrait tools. Instead, you’ll find it in the Layer masking options, within the Masking options.
Of course, I tested it out real quick for this article, and I’m blown away by how fast it is. I used a few photos, and It does a pretty good job overall. There’s also a refinement brush that lets you touch up the image if the AI messed it up a bit. But from my quick test, it seems that the brush needs a bit more refinement. But maybe it’s just me. Luminar Neo is available as a one-time purchase or as a subscription. As new features are introduced, you can always update the program and use them in the future. Luminar Neo is available in both the Microsoft Store and the macOS App Store. It also works as a plugin, so you can keep your images in your preferred photo editor while still using the AI tools you find useful. I’m also reminding you of Luminar Share, the mobile app that lets you transfer images from your phone to your computer for the AI-powered editing job. The app is available on the Google Play Store and the macOS App Store. To learn more about Luminar Neo and sign up for updates, visit Skylum’s website.
