The photo and video capabilities of phones getting better and better with each new device that seems to be released, so more and more people are taking photography and filmmaking on their phones a little more seriously. Even if they are using “real cameras” for much of their work, they still want to get the most out of their phones that they can. With this in mind, Moondog Labs, creator of those anamorphic smartphone lenses, has release the Multi-Camera Filter Mount. It’s designed for the iPhone 11 and other phones that have bayonet mount cases available and gives you a standard 52mm filter thread to screw on regular neutral density and polarizing filters.
It’s a very handy looking device for when you’re shooting photos or filming video where you’re regularly bouncing between your device’s different cameras. Or when you’re using something like Filmic’s new DoubleTake app to record two cameras simultaneously. It works with smartphone cases from companies like Moment, Rhinoshield and Sirui which feature a bayonet mount over the camera. The Moondog Labs Multi-Camera Filter Mount (boy, what a mouthful!) then clips onto this mount, and has openings for all three cameras, allowing your filter to cover them all simultaneously. While it won’t turn your iPhone 11 Pro into an Arri Alexa, it will help you to more easily be able to utilise your phone for shooting photos and videos without having to duplicate a whole bunch of filters you already own for your camera. Want to screw on a 10-stop ND and shoot some long exposure stills? Need to bring the exposure down a stop or two to get that 1/50th of a second shutter speed for video? Want a little more reflection control or darken up your skies against the environment? No problem. Of course, if all your filters are 77mm, then you’re going to need a step-up ring, too.
