Much of my work focuses on a single subject relating to a seemingly harsh/sparse environment. I’m often drawn to the natural world as a setting; particularly cold, foggy, and gloomy scenes. I find there to be a beautiful vulnerability in the loneliness and isolation of a subject in a harsh/sparse spaces....
One of the beautiful things about aerial and drone photography is that you can appreciate the earth from a completely different perspective. You can often see things from an angle that from the ground you just can’t appreciate. These images that photographer Stefan Liebermann captured recently of what looks like an underwater waterfall do exactly that. Stefan was visiting the Island of Mauritius and flew his drone over the Le Morne Brabant peninsula....
Gigapixel images have taken off like crazy over the last couple of years. With devices like the Gigapan and similar products becoming so readily available and the massive increase in sensor resolution lately, they’re becoming easier and easier to create. While typically used to document sporting or political events, or to show off an entire city, this is the first time I’ve seen the technique used in advertising. Here it’s being used to promote the Bentley Mulsanne EWB....
Well, it’s (almost) official. The launch of the Panasonic S1 and S1R full-frame mirrorless cameras was expected in March, presumably, so they could tease them at The Photography Show, and then show them off properly at Photokina. Since Photokina was cancelled, however, Panasonic let out a new teaser letting us know to expect an announcement on January 31st (today). It looks like UK retailers Park Cameras and CVP might have jumped the gun slightly, though, because, for a brief time, they listed the new cameras and various lens combos on their websites for pre-order, along with prices....
It’s standard practice for commercial photography clients to ask photographers their ‘day rate’. Most estimates that photographers provide start with a day rate before going on to production costs and expenses. Now I used to think I could simply take it for granted that anyone involved in the industry would be able to appreciate this isn’t exactly what a photographer or for that matter any independent creative professional working on a short term project earns for every single day of the year....
