With some regularity, I see people posting on Facebook or photography forums asking for ideas on what they can shoot in their home for when they’re unable to get outside and shoot. The work of Amsterdam based duo Adrian Woods and Gidi Van Maarseveen, certainly gives us some inspiration for such times. In their latest project, commissioned by Quote Magazine, Adrian & Gidi created a VanDutch boat heading into rough waters, and made the entire scene using nothing but paper....

iPhone 7 Plus was the first phone to incorporate “Portrait mode” that adds artificial background blur to your portraits. According to recent reports, Apple is about to apply the same feature to videos very soon, too. The upcoming iPhone 13 will reportedly allow you to shoot videos with artificial background blur. But there are even more video improvements to come, so let’s see what we can expect. A report from Bloomberg reads that iPhone 13 will have “at least three” major camera improvements....

When the iPhone X came along with its Portrait Lighting effects, a lot of people were very impressed. Apple was even claiming that you don’t need studio lighting at all anymore or any other fancy equipment. You just need your phone. And while the iPhone hasn’t taken over as the portrait photographer’s camera of choice, it’s an intriguing concept. A concept so intriguing that researchers and engineers at UC San Diego and Google have taken it a few steps further....

Advertisements This year, the contest marks its 12th year. There were eight prizes across five divisions, and we have a chance to see both winning entries and honorable mentions. They were selected among nearly 2,500 photographers from all 50 states, Washington D.C., and 10 Canadian provinces and territories. They sent in almost 8,800 images and over 260 videos, so I believe the jury had a tough time picking the best ones....

Photographing a rocket launch is something I’ve always wanted to try. For me, though, it’s not easy. There aren’t exactly many of them here in Scotland. Or, well, any at all, really. Yet. But I do enjoy looking at the images and video created by others. Lensrentals recently featured photographer Justin Hartny and his coverage of the NASA Antares Rocket Launch in April, along with a breakdown of the gear and techniques used to get the shots and stand out from most of the usual rocket launch photography we see....
