It was only a few days ago when we reported that Instagram might be evolving into Twitter with its new Notes feature. Well, the launch happened much sooner than expected – and Notes are already officially out. I spotted the new feature when I opened Instagram today, and then saw the announcement on the platform’s Twitter account. Am I the only one feeling the irony here? Laowa has today announced their new 11mm f/4.5 FF RL lens. It’s a tiny lens for its short focal length and wide field of view at only 58mm long and weighing a mere 254g. It’s a rectilinear lens, not a fisheye, and it’s designed to offer complete coverage on full-frame mirrorless cameras. With a 126° field of view, the lens actually has a front 62mm filter thread. Laowa boasts it as the widest rectilinear lens ever made for full-frame that does actually have a filter thread....
After teaming up with Lenny Kravitz to launch the M Monochrome “Drifter,” Leica is bringing rock ‘n’ roll and photography together once again. This time, it’s an homage to Andy Summer’s work. Other than being known for his music (both solo and as a member of The Police), Summers is also a fantastic photographer. So, Leica has decided to launch a $15K limited-edition camera for all Summers’ fans. Leica M Monochrom “Signature” is a “synergy of music and photography,” as Leica explains....
FiLMiC Pro has been my go to app for mobile video for the past few years. Whether I want to shoot a quick personal clip or shoot some behind the scenes footage, it mostly works great. There’s one or two issues, like drifting audio and no ability to shoot 23.976fps (it does exactly 24), but it’s still the most useful video app out there. One thing that’s a big problem common to all mobile video apps, though, is the contrast and colour typically provided by most phones sucks....
