Photographer-owned brand Long Weekend has launched three colourful new camera bags. The new lineup includes the Beacon Tote, Monterey Sling, and a snug little camera pouch for your favourite point-and-shoot camera. The bags are aimed purposefully at the film shooter, but also straddle the digital photography world perfectly. Long Weekend was started in 2021 by photographers Willem Verbeeck and Allison Simon. They wanted to create a fresh new gear brand that was inspired by epic road trips, shooting film, and slowing down to take it all in.

The 18L Beacon Tote holds all the essentials with a zippered main compartment with a padded laptop sleeve, key loop, and water bottle pocket. The additional exterior quick-access pouch is perfectly sized for easy access to your point and shoot or phone. The bag is very roomy and absolutely large enough to fit in all the essentials for a working-away-from-home excursion, say at the beach or co-working cafe. The laptop compartment fits up to a 16-inch laptop and feels secure enough to rest easy that your belongings won’t get damaged.

In fact, the bag is far sturdier than most similar-sized tote bags and you really could pack enough for an overnight trip if you really edited down to the absolute essentials. The outside zippered pocket contains separate compartments making it easy to stay organised.

The sling

The sling

The sling

This is an update of the bum bag or fanny-pack as they were called in the 90s. I’m old enough to remember them the first time around and am slightly hesitant to embrace the look again. However, Gen Zers are absolutely rocking this look, and calling this style a sling, which makes it far more palatable. With 2L of capacity, this sling is great for carrying your film camera, point-and-shoot, and plus sized phone, along with all your daily essentials. It has an adjustable strap which makes it possible to wear either cross-body or around your waist, which is great news for anyone with shoulder problems.

External zipper and cargo pockets are perfect for your quick access items like extra rolls of film. A simple internal slip pocket keeps you organized and easily fits plus-sized phones. It’s actually a really great design if you want easy quick access to smaller items while keeping them secure and close by. Sure, it won’t fit a mirrorless camera or DSLR, but it would be perfect for spare batteries, memory cards and a coin purse or wallet. It’s far more comfortable than carrying a separate bag or relying on a trouser pocket for example. And if travelling in larger cities will provide a small layer of extra security against potential pickpockets.

The Camera Pouch

The Camera Pouch

The Camera Pouch

The camera pouch is designed to add the perfect amount of protection to your point-and-shoot camera without adding bulk. It’s certainly compact sizing at 6.3”(H) x 3.9”(W) x 2.4”(D). The minimalist and collapsible design forms to the shape of your camera so it still fits in whatever pocket you want to throw it in.

Webbing loops on each side of the pouch allow you to connect your favourite neck strap and attachment points on the back let you clip it to any bag or backpack strap. It would also very comfortably fit most sizes of smartphones if you require extra protection. All in all these are some very nice additions to an already great line up. They aren’t just another camera backpack, these are actually something fresh and not items that you would usually find aimed at photographers. These bags are aimed at young creators, who are busy exploring through different mediums, whether it be through film, digital or just smart phones. They are both practical and versatile, yet have a fun fashionable vibe that is also eco-conscious and sustainable. The three bags are available to buy now from the Moment website. The tote bag is priced at $69.99, the sling at $49.99, and the pouch at $24.99.
