The Canon updates mostly ensure compatibility with Canon’s Lens Aberration Correction function. This enables automatic correction right in the camera, which corrects things like vignetting and chromatic aberration. But one lens sees an autofocus speed improvement and another becomes compatible with the EOS R’s 1.6x crop mode.

The Nikon updates fix various bugs when certain lenses are used on the Nikon Z cameras along with the Nikon FTZ Mount Adapter. While the firmware does specify the Nikon Z7, I’ve seen people posting about these issues on the Nikon Z6, too. It’s unclear whether these will fix the issue for Z6 users, but I would expect it will.

All of the new firmware updates are available to download now through the Sigma Optimization Pro app downloadable from the Sigma website. Updates are available for both Mac and Windows, but you will also need either the Canon EF USB dock or Nikon F USB dock, depending on what flavour you shoot in order to apply it to your lenses. Sigma seems to be going full-on at the moment to get firmware updates out of the way to help improve compatibility with Nikon and Canon DSLRs and mirrorless cameras. I expect they’re just trying to clear their workload so they can get working on their own collaboration with Leica & Panasonic and the impending Full Frame Foveon camera.
