I love photography, but I love chocolate just as much. Hell, I probably even love it more! And Ann Reardon of How to Cook That brought my two loves together. No, she didn’t take photos of chocolate – she made her own camera out of it. In the video above, she shows you how she did it. And if you’ve got some skill, you can even make one yourself.
The video is quite old, but I only discovered Ann’s channel somewhere around the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. While I was procrastinating on YouTube today, this video popped up and I was so amazed that I had to share it.
Ann made her own template for assembling the camera, and it has quite a few bits and pieces. She makes the body and the lens by pouring tempered chocolate into different molds and on acetate paper (you can also use tinfoil). She cuts out circles for the command dials and carves the parts of the camera body so that they fit together. When different parts are cut and carved, she joins them together with melted chocolate. If you decide to give it a go, you can line all the pieces onto the template first so you know what goes where. This reminded me of assembling Lomomod No. 1, another very cool (although not edible) camera. This is a great gift for someone in your life who loves both chocolate and photography. I think it should be a gift for someone you love very much, though, considering that it takes a lot of time to make it. You can even treat yourself, you’ve earned it! If you decide to make the chocolate camera, Ann has made a template available for purchase. But if you don’t really shine in the kitchen – worry not, you can also buy a vintage Nikon SLR made of chocolate. [CHOCOLATE CAMERA | How To Cook That]
